Subproject 2: Social geography
The aim of the social geography sub-project (SP) is to analyze the current and future hazard hotspots in the settlement and infrastructure areas in the Main Valley, taking into account the overarching project objectives, and to develop future-oriented recommendations for action with special consideration of planning instruments. The study area of the TP comprises the districts of Main-Spessart, Würzburg, Kitzingen, Schweinfurt, Haßberge and the independent cities of Würzburg and Schweinfurt, whereby primarily the cities and municipalities within the Main Valley are considered.
Four work packages were designed to structure the research, which are presented below.
Work package 1:
A comprehensive survey and compilation of the land use plans, depending on availability, of the affected municipalities and towns in the study area yet to be defined.
Work package 2:
Intersection of the collected land use plans with the risk and hazard areas previously identified by the remote sensing working group. The aim is to analyze different land use areas with regard to potential hazard situations.
Work package 3:
Building on the previous work steps, qualitative interviews with political decision-makers and planning offices will be conducted in the third work package. The aim is to discuss possible reasons for the resulting endangered situations and future prospects.
Work package 4:
Recommendations for action are to be developed on the basis of the research results and made available to the general public. It may be necessary to develop our own models and scenarios.
