14th D-A-CH Permafrost Conference in Oberelsbach, Rhoen
01/10/2024In January, the 14th meeting of the Arbeitskreis Permafrost (D-A-CH Permafrost Conference) took place with 42 participants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The meeting was organized by the team Environmental Systems (Prof. Christof Kneisel, Julius Kunz, Tim Wiegand and Sebastian Buchelt) from the University of Wuerzburg and the D-A-CH Permafrost Union (German Society of Polar Research) at the "Rhöniversum" conference center in Oberelsbach.
In addition to numerous talks, workshop reports and posters about polar and alpine permafrost, the three-day meeting offered many opportunities for personal exchange. This was also promoted by an interesting program, which was co-organized by the Rhoen Biosphere Reserve and the Permafrost Young Researcher Network.
Finally, a day excursion to the Hohe Rhön focused on periglacial and microclimatic aspects. Among other stops, the block accumulation at the Schafstein was visited, where the team Environmental Systems has been carrying out investigations for many years.
