Zweite CAWa Summer School (2015)
The Summer School introduced scientific concepts, methods and tools for handling land and water resources in Central Asia. These methods are of great value in a framework of integrated water and land resources management. The first week focussed on the spatial aspect of data management, the processing and analysis of geodata using GIS and Remote Sensing. In general the participants learnt concepts, methods and tools, how to produce meaningful maps from satellite images.
A special highlight of the first week was the presentation and following lively discussion of the ARTE-film “Central Asia's Battle for Water” with the filmmaker and representatives of the German Federal Foreign Office and the German Consulate General Almaty.

Deutsche Vertretungen in Kasachstan
The summer school was organized in the frame of the German Water Initiative for Central Asia (“Berlin Process”), which has been launched by the German Federal Foreign Office and is being implemented by DKU (German-Kasakh University), the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) Transboundary Water Management in Central Asia Programme and the CAWa project.
Participants
The Summer School addressed 23 specialists from hydrological and meteorological services, dedicated master and PhD students as well as junior university teachers and researchers from the Central Asian countries and Afghanistan. Eligible were participants from the following Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. The participants were selected based on their application documents (Application Form, motivation letter, CV). In addition the winners of the National (Kasakh) Olympiads on Integrated Water Management conducted by DKU immediately prior to the Summer School were awarded with the participation. Unfortunately no participant from Turkmenistan could be found, and only one participant from Afghanistan. The CAWa project provided funding for travel and accommodation expenses for the accepted participants.
