Morning train from Würzburg to Frankfurt Flughafen. Flight by ….(open) to Cairo Airport 1st Night in Cairo
Sun February 23rd, 2025:
Explore with own bus Cairo. Pyramids in Gizah and Sakkara, look at new Egyptian Museum (not open yet) and old Egyptian Museum . 2nd Night in Cairo .
Mon February 24th, 2025:
Contact with Egyptian Geographical Society (tbc) and visit of Institute. Afternoon historical Cairo – Fustat with Coptic Church, Nilometer and Khan Khalili. 3rd Night in Cairo .
Tue February 25th, 2025 Via Citadel Jabal Moqattam and 6th October-City to Ismailiya. Visit of Suez Canal and Canal Authority (tbc). 4th Night in Cairo
Wed. February 26th, 2025:
By morning train (1st Class) from Cairo to Alexandria. Afternoon explore Alexandria – Corniche, Montazah, Abuqir. 1st Night in Alexandria, Metropole Hotel
Thu. February 27th, 2025:
Entire day in Alexandria – History with Catacombes, site of Pharos. Modern Alex with harbour, tramway system,. Evening in Greek Restaurant.. 2nd night in Alexandria .
Friday February 28th, 2025:
By own bus along Mediterranean Coast via El Mex -Site of Abu Mina – El Alamein to Marsah Matruh. Explore landscape and sites of WW II. 1st night in Marsah Matruh, possibly Hotel Beau Site .
Sat. March 1st (first day of fasting month Ramadhan):
By own bus through the “white desert” to Siwa Oasis
Encounter sand dunes and moving sands. 1st night in Siwa Camp .
Sun. March 2nd, 2025:
Excursion to Siwa Oasis – Artesian Springs, old town, Agurmi site oracle temple ( Alexander the Great was here) .2nd Night in Siwa.
Monday March 3rd, 2025:
Back through desert. Physical geography of Libyan desert resp. Sahar in general Caravans and modern transport. On to Marsah Matruh.. 2nd night in Marsah Matruh
Tuesday March 4th, 2025:
Rest day in Marsah Matruh. 3rd night in Marsah Matruh :
Wednesday, March 5th, 2025:
Explore surroundings of Marsah Matruh. Hydrology of Mediterranean Sea, Rommel cave, development of national tourism. 4th night in Marsah Matruh
Thursday, March 6th, 2025:
By public/private bus or train whole day direct trip to Cairo . Transfer to hotel. 1 night in Cairo.
Friday March 7th, 2025:
Transfer to Cairo Airport and end of services. Individual flight home (or additional days in Egypt).
